Some of the most popular beaches in the country do have beach patrol or lifeguards on duty (usually only during the high season, running from May until the end of October) and some of them even use the safety flag warning system, including the beach at Praia da Luz.

Praia da Luz has an EEC "Blue Flag" award for beach and sea cleanliness. Sun beds, parasols and water sports equipment rental stands are available at Praia da Luz. Laze on the beach and go for a swim. The beach is considered to be safe and ideal for children. There is a restaurant/bar on the beach and many other are accessible within a short walking distance.
