The beautiful and welcoming seaside village of Praia da Luz (or also known as "Luz") is located in the southern west coast of Algarve, the most southern region of Portugal. Situated about 6 km west of the historic city of Lagos, today, Praia da Luz is one of the most popular beach resorts in the country.
Until recently, a small fisherman's village, it specialized in Octopus potting and Tuna canning. In the past, the Romans also had a settlement and today, the remains of an aqueduct and a bath house where they would spend their leisure days, can still be seen. You can also discover the "Fortaleza da Luz", a XV-XVI century fortification built to defend against pirates, nowadays a fine restaurant with a breathtaking sea view from its outside terrace.
